The Story of Delaying that First Drink:

A Parents’ Guide

At a meeting of young adults in Alcoholics Anonymous they told their stories of hitting rock bottom and redemption at each event. One told me he started by drinking the lemon extract in his mother’s kitchen cabinet at the age of nine. Another said her parents lived in squalor taunted by rats and roaches and she was headed for the same life until she got sober.

My book had one goal: Explain the science of alcohol and how it affects adolescents to parents giving them a new way to talk to their kids about drinking. We started a national conversation through the NY Times and NPR that is still ongoing.
